Board of Trustees
Board Meetings are open to the public and held every third Monday of each month at 4pm. On occasions that a federal holiday falls on Monday, the meeting will be held the next day, the third Tuesday of the month. Meeting documents can be provided upon request by phone or email.

Expectations:
• Serious commitment to the work of a Library Trustee
• Dedication to the provision of high quality, contemporary Library services
• The ability to prepare for, attend, and actively participate in regularly scheduled board and committee meetings, and major Library events
• A commitment to freedom of expression and inquiry for all people
• An open mind, curiosity, and ability to work cooperatively
Responsibilities:
• Participate in board and committee meetings
• Adopt, periodically review, and update written policies to govern the operation and services of the Library
• Approve the Library’s annual budget and monitor its ongoing fiscal health
• Secure adequate funding levels for Library operations and maintain a clear picture of the library’s financial situation
• Act as an advocate for the Library
• Become informed about the services offered by the Library and promote these services in the community
• Plan for the future of the Library, setting long-term strategic direction and goals; encourage and support attention to both visionary planning and efficient day-to-day operations
• Develop a job description for, hire, and conduct annual performance evaluations of the Executive Director, and support their innovation and creativity
• Ensure that the Library’s property is properly maintained and upgraded as needed
• Adhere to the New York State Public Meetings Laws
• Support basic library tenets such as: Intellectual Freedom, Freedom to Read, Confidentiality of Patron Records, Library Bill of Rights, and the Public’s Right to Information
• Abide by majority decisions reached by the Board and publicly support those decisions
• Follow the established chain of command for effecting change, working through the Library director

- Attend a meeting to sample what the monthly meeting and responsibility entails.
